Groot was a Flora colossi from Planet X, the capital of the Branchworlds, five gardens of suns and planets created by the Gardener. Groot and his fellow Flora colossi, Tweeg and Gleef, were raised by their parents and the Arbor Masters, who served as teachers, protectors and monarchs. They learned through photosynthesis, as sunrise transmitted the collected consciousness of generations of Arbor Masters into Groot and his peers.
